Jetpack, Flying Carpet and Shield in Rainbow Obby Cat Mode
Published · Updated · 2 min read
A cat is small and the house in Rainbow Obby's Cat mode is big. Shelves, tables and kitchen counters are often out of jump range. The game has three items to help with that and with other players: the jetpack, the flying carpet and the shield. The numbers below come from the item scripts in the copy of Cat mode on this site.
Item pads
Items are picked up from pads placed around the house. Each pad shows the item's name and its price. Stand on a pad and a ring starts to fill. Stay until it completes and the item is yours. If you step off before the ring fills, it resets. The house has three jetpack pads and one flying carpet pad. The other pads hold cat skins.
When you pick up an item it goes into your inventory bar. The bar has 9 slots. If they are all full, the game shows "Your inventory reached its slot limit!" and you cannot take more until you use something up.
Jetpack
- Select the jetpack slot, then hold Space (or the jump button on a touch screen) to fly straight up.
- A full tank holds 5 seconds of thrust. Fuel only drains while you hold the button, so short bursts last longer than one long press.
- The slot shows a bar that goes from green to red as fuel runs low. At zero the jetpack leaves your inventory.
- If your tank is full, a jetpack pad says "Jetpack fuel is already full." and gives you nothing.
The jetpack is the quickest way onto high furniture. Point the camera at the shelf, tap jump to lift off, then steer with W A S D as you rise.
Flying carpet
- The carpet lasts 30 seconds once you turn it on. Unlike the jetpack, the timer runs the whole time the carpet is active, not just while you climb.
- W A S D or the arrow keys move you in the direction the camera faces. Hold Space to gain height.
- On a phone the joystick steers it and the jump button lifts it.
- A full carpet blocks a second pickup with "Flying Carpet energy is already full."
Use the carpet to cross a room or reach the garden from upstairs, and the jetpack for short climbs. Do not switch the carpet on until you know where you are going, because the 30 seconds keep counting.
Shield
Other cats can slap you. When the shield is active, a slap that would have knocked you over is blocked, and the cat that slapped you bounces back. Each blocked slap uses one point of durability, and a full shield has 5. At zero it is removed from your inventory. There is no shield pad in this copy's house, so you will rarely have one.
Saving and losing items
Jetpack fuel, carpet time and shield durability are saved in your browser along with your level and XP. If you close the tab with half a tank left, the half tank is still there next time on the same browser. The "Delete progress" button in the menu clears all of it, items included.
